Welcome

Intrigued? So are we, by the prospect of you joining our leadership team.

What makes Southampton special; our people, our communities and how we work together. We are proud of who we are and where we are going and we want you to be part of our future.

Our great city is located on the South Coast of England steeped in history with cultural venues that tell stories of our rich and colourful past, including the Titanic and the iconic Spitfire. Our historic port is the gateway to the South for visitors, making our streets pulsate with diversity that hails from every corner of the world and communities with exciting blends of culture, food and music of every nationality. Our green spaces offer welcome oases to the throng of bustling city-life all within an easy train commute from London.

Children and young people are the very heart of our city and we’re fiercely ambitious to give them the best start in life with every opportunity to learn, grow and achieve their full potential. We are committed to making Southampton more child friendly than ever before, listening to their voices and shaping our services to make our children and young people become the leaders of tomorrow.

It’s an exciting time to join Southampton, with strong leadership we have and continue to navigate the financial challenges that have impacted so many local authorities. We have created efficiencies through smarter working practices and are now considered the model for tackling, addressing and pioneering positive change.

We have and continue to build strong foundations to support our children, young people and their families. We’ve signed the historic Caversham Covenant, providing a supportive network around Headteachers and schools undergoing Ofsted inspections and celebrated the first Primary School in the country to be recognised as a ‘Leader in Me’ school. We are working to address school attendance including long term absence through innovations such as AV1 robots and we celebrate schools who have transformed from being under to oversubscribed. We are proud to boast a high number of ‘Outstanding’ and ‘Good’ schools as well as being home to well-regarded colleges and universities.

We recently redesigned our Childrens Social Service implementing the innovative Family Safeguarding Model, created our first Mockingbird constellation for foster carers and launched our new Post-16 Accommodation Service. These steps will support children and young people to enjoy stability and a space to learn and achieve.

Now we are transforming our Education Service to ensure we deliver the very best outcomes to our children and young people and are looking for the Director of Education be their champion. We’re looking for someone with real passion and drive to lead our Education Service.

Ready to make your mark? Join our leadership team and help shape Southampton's story.
